Biography



Professor Adebayo Abiodun Joshua was born on 24th December, 1952. He is from Share, the headquarters of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria.
He started his primary education at United Missionary Church of Africa (UMCA) Primary School at Share from 1961 to 1967 and gained admission into Makwa Teachers College in 1967. He graduated from the same college in 1972and worked for two years during which he was able to add extra credits to his previous results by passing London GCE O'Level subjects. He gained admission into the School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University in 1975 and secured an admission to read  B.A (Hons) English Language in 1976 in the defunct Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He graduated in 1979 and was later recalled by the Department as a Graduate Assistant after the completion of the mandatory NYSC one year period in August, 1980. Professor Adebayo Abiodun Joshua has remained in the active service for Ahmadu Bello University since then.
He has served the Ahmadu Bello University in different capacities, both at academic and administrative levels. He served was the Head, Language Section, Department of English between 1987-1992 and within the same period he was appointed as the Coordinator, English Language for the School of General and Remedial Studies, 1988 to 1996. He was also the University Coordinator for GENS 103; English and Communication Skills from 1996-2004, Professor Adebayo Abiodun Joshua became the Acting Head of Department in October 2003 March 2004. He was elected, Head of Department, May 2004-April 2008. It was within this period that he was elected the Dean, Faculty of Arts, July 2006 - June 2010. In recognition of his hard work and dedicated to duties he was appointed into his present position as the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Ahmadu Bello University on 14th June, 2010.
His areas of research are in the field of Sociolinguistic and Applied Linguistics. He has authored 34 articles both published and conference papers and has graduated 31 Master and 14 Doctorate students.
Professor Adebayo Abiodun Joshua is happily married with children.
